All professions, including solicitors, can make mistakes.
When things have gone seriously wrong caused by your solicitor's
negligence, it may not be easy for your former lawyer to admit it
and settle with you for insurance reasons. Perhaps your solicitor
who helped you buy your property did not tell you something which
you have now discovered makes the value of your property worth considerably
less or you have lost out considerably in a badly drafted contract.
Trying to sort out the problem on your own can be stressful, time
consuming and the financial risks of dealing with it, without independent
legal advice, can be considerable.
Perhaps you've tried to resolve the problem with your solicitor
and that hasnt worked, or your solicitor has told you to find
another solicitor as they now have a conflict of interest in acting
for you.
You may have complained to the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors
(OSS) but have not got far in obtaining redress.
No criticism is intended of the OSS. It is just that is a body
not specifically geared to deciding negligence allegations against
solicitors, rather in general it investigations focus on other allegations
of the failings of solicitors.
The OSS does not generally try to substitute the judgment of the
Courts or prejudice a solicitors insurance companys
right to defend their insured.

You might risk being out
of time to recover compensation, if you delay seeking independent
legal advice or your compensation may be reduced or disallowed if
you have not, "Mitigated your loss."
If you are in this position, you may not appreciate the full size
of your financial loss and potential compensation recovery, unless
you have taken experienced legal advice on the value and merits
of your complaint.
Clients sometimes deliberately choose a lawyer to represent them
from outside their own local legal community, to avoid possible
embarrassment and near certainty that the lawyer representing them
does not know their previous solicitor.
